"1-8-08 The Bissi's Have Left The Studio"

Moments before departure time.

Yesterday afternoon I received a phone call from the foundry letting me know that they would be picking up my sculpture this morning. Because I'm a bit of a perfectionist, a trait that drives most people crazy, I awoke at 2:00 AM, made coffee and ventured out to the studio to do all the final finishing like make sure the skin was flawless and sign the piece. I worked until they arrived at 11:00 AM.

Letting go of something that took 5 months to create, and well over 1000 hours to perfect, is not easy. What hurts the most is that my sculpture will soon be dismantled in order to make molds. When I get it back it will probably be in 6-7 pieces neatly packed in boxes. This morning I wanted to call the Bissi's and say I've changed my mind, they can't have the sculpture and I'm not letting it out of my studio. Of all the artwork I've created in my life, there are only a handful of pieces that are in my private collection. If I could figure a way to keep this piece, believe me I would.

Owner of BronzeArt, Rick and assistant Kevin. Amazingly enough they were able to lift the sculpture and carry it through the house and then out to the driveway where their van waited patiently. I wanted so badly to say, " careful guys" only I couldn't speak. All I could do is hold my breath, say a few Hail Marry's and nervously watch.

Are you sure it won't fall over?
Bronze Art promised they would take very good care of my sculpture and that I could see it again in two weeks after they cut Mrs. Bissi's head off. I couldn't reach the front of his shirt, so I'm heading south when the head comes off the finish that area. Maybe I'll kidnap the sculpture while I'm there and bring it back home with me.
My studio looks so empty now that it makes me want ot cry.

so time to have a glass of wine and find a chunk of clay...this time look for the angel that just wants out.

These pictures are breath taking.

I had to laugh at the idea of kidknaping your own art work.

Can I steal a few pictures and a couple of lines?

It is absolutely breath-taking! It is definitely one of the defining works of a lifetime and I want to see it in bronze when it's done. I am so happy for you and can empathize... when an artist lives with a piece during it's development for months, it can be oh so hard to let go.

You have made something so beautiful!!!!

I popped in to Christina's blog to say hi and saw her link here and followed immediately. What a wonderful surprise! This is incredible! I want my ashes thrown to the wind when I die but this almost makes me want to change my mind. I think everyone should get these (from you no less) instead of a boring cold stone with a name on it. Absolutely exquisite. May your creativity continue on in a new form just as the Bissi's do now.
